FAQs

How does PurchLive work?
PurchLive is a web-based hosted solution. You might hear this type of technology referred to as "software-as-a-service" or "SaaS". SaaS is a computing model in which IT applications are provided “as a service”, allowing users to access these applications from the Internet without needing to maintain the infrastructure that supports them. With PurchLive, the application is served from Pipit's highly secure, scalable, and reliable data centers. Your business is able to offload the infrastructure costs and the effort it takes to maintain an on-premises solution, and focus those savings on more strategic IT initiatives.

Can PurchLive be hosted on my servers?
Pipit currently does not support off-site hosting of its PurchLive application. We have found that hosting within the Pipit network provides higher quality connections, bandwidth and increased uptime. If you wish discuss Pipit’s hosting operations or you have a specific unique case that requires self-hosting, please contact us to discuss.

Why does PurchLive run in Flash?
Flash has a number of benefits: Flash is more flexible and stable than Java or other browser based languages used for older Chat systems. The Flash front end allows for limitless design possibilities, additions and features. Flash is completely cross platform — PC or MAC — and is pre-installed on most computers sold today. Because Flash is installed on nearly 90% of all browsers, PurchLive just works with one click — with nothing to download, install, or hassle with. The Flash structure allows for future development, such as the integration of audio and video communication using Macromedia's Flash Communication Server.

What is Software-as-a-Service (Saas)?
Software-as-a-Service (or SaaS) refers to computer based applications and services that are provided via remote delivery to end users rather than as a packaged product to be purchased and installed by the end user.
With SaaS, you access your software-based services or applications using a web browser.  You pay for these services on a monthly per-user and/or per-service subscription basis.  The cost of the hardware and infrastructure that hosts the software, the right to use the software, and all maintenance and support services are included in the monthly subscription fee.

What are the advantages to SaaS?
Anytime, anywhere access. Running the PurchLive application merely requires access to a web browser.

Subscription based. You pay for PurchLive on a monthly subscription basis.  There are no per-seat charges or other license fees.

Cost effective. PurchLive does not require large systems expenditures for servers, server installation, or other hardware and software.  We take care of all system upgrades, maintenance, backup, storage, and security.

Secure. PurchLive is hosted off-site in limited access facilities at Rackspace.

Faster deployment. PurchLive can be up and running quickly.  After initial sign-up, our pro services team will configure your system so it is compatible with the way your e-commerce site functions today. And, anytime you have a question our support team is standing by to help.

Easier, more available training. Web-based training sessions are available along with the ability to communicate with a support person as needed.

Faster innovation. PurchLive is updated more quickly so you get the benefit of the latest innovations.  For example, a typical desktop computer application may have a major release once a year (or less) with several "updates" between major releases.  Each release requires the user to acquire and install new software.  PurchLive can have releases on a much more frequent basis (monthly is not unusual).  The releases are performed at off-hours and require no action on the part of the user.  Because the releases are more frequent, they are much smaller.  This means they are easier to test and are less likely to have bugs that get through the testing system.
